Gothtronic Review (English)

The German electropop band Obscenity Trial moves with this new album from Infacted Recordings to the bigger Major records, who a.o. also take care of the success of Ladytron and IAMX. A logical development since That Night sounds more grown-up than the debut Here and Now. The themes are often inspired by troublesome relationships and human tragedies. Piano sounds give an organic feel to the synthetic pop music, but it is the strong voice of Oliver Wand that carries the catchy electropop songs like 'Go Away' and 'Lecture'. Oliver Wand has managed the production by himself this time, with some additional production by Nils Schulte, except for 'That Night', 'My Mind Your Mind' and 'What Is It For' which have all been done by Olaf Wollschlager. 'My Mind Your Mind' is a potential single with a huge 80?s feel that can go straight into the charts. 'So Easy' and 'Inside Out' remind a bit of And One and the dark EBM influenced 'This Place' reminds of Covenant. Even the only German language song 'Wenn Du Fallst' is not out of place here. Obscenity Trial delivers a very well-balanced album with That Night of which I'm sure it will appeal to many people.
